- What are the official game formats?
Answer...
There are six game formats described on the tournament Home Page. The formats are listed in the Official Rules. In the 2007 World Championships, the Quad Sport and Team Sport will be 8 player teams. The Shields Recharge and Team Free-For-All will be 4-player teams.
- How much will the World Championships cost?
Answer...
Pricing has not been set for 2008 but should be roughly the same as 2007 pricing. Pricing varies by the player's Division of play. Players in the top-level Division 1 event will pay a higher price, but will be eligible for much greater cash prizes. Division 2 is designed for recreational players and receive a lower entry fee, but are ineligible for the higher cash prizes. To play in Division 2, no more than 25% of the players on any team may be ranked in the Top 100 players according to current standings as of August 1, 2008 without permission from the Tournament Director. All players entered in any event are eligible for the Solo Elimination event and the Manager's Cup Draft event. International players are also eligible for a special discountPricing is as follows:
| Team Classification |
Any 2 Team Events |
All Team Events |
| Division 1 |
$40 |
$60 |
| Division 2 |
$30 |
$40 |
| Outside U.S. excluding Canada* |
$20 |
$25 |
The solo elimination and Manager's Cup event are included with any entry (one per player).
- Can individual players sign up for the World Championships cost?
Answer...
Absolutely. In fact, we encourage it. One of the teams the first year composed of individual players placed second or third in every event except one. The LASERTRON World Championship staff will assist you in building a team.
- Do I have to win/participate in a regional to go to the World Championships?
Answer...
No, you do not have to play in a Regional Tournament to qualify for the World Championships. Any team or individual player is eligible (except as indicated in the Official Rules).
Official Regional Tournaments will offer a team or players a 10% non-cumulative discount on the World Championships. We encourage your participation in any LASERTRON tournament.
- How is the prize money paid out?
Answer...
Prize money will be paid out to all team members by individual check at the end of the World Championships.
The prize money is divided out amongst each of the events. You don't have to participate in all events or even do well in all events to receive a cash prize.
If a player earns more than $400, LASERTRON will require legal paperwork be submitted before mailing the check.
- Do you have a map of the arenas for LASERTRON and Circle C Ranch?
Answer...
We only have a map of our larger Sport Arena in our Amherst facility at this time. A map for Circle C is not currently available. You can find the Amherst maps here.
- Will there be transportation between Amherst, NY and Circle C Ranch?
Answer...
Players will need to find their own transportation again this year. If you don't have local transportation, you will be able to check with other players for a ride.
- Is jumping straight up and down allowed?
Answer...
Yes, provided you are still playing under control as defined by the referees and you are not moving horizontally.
- Can I wear a face mask while I play?
Answer...
As long as the face mask does not block a sensor or, because it is baggy, can block a sensor, it is allowed.
Curious why someone would want to wear a face mask other than to look menacing? Sometimes, if the phaser is close to your face, your face can reflect an opponents shot and score a tag even when otherwise hiding behind a wall or other obstacle. This is a relatively unusual circumstance, but it can happen.
- If a player is in "Shield" mode, can that player block for another player?
Answer...
This issue may need to be addressed at the World Championships, but a player who is in the "shield" mode is still active on the playing field. Since they are not an inactive player, there are no rules governing whether they can block a fellow teammate from opponents. This will be allowed in Regional Tournaments, provided the deactivated player (in "shield" mode) is not blocking a player attempting to tag the base..
Remember, a player in Shields mode has NO lights. If a player's lights are flashing, they MAY NOT block for another player.
