Once again, Team OverPower from XP LaserSport in Laurel, Maryland was the power of the tournament. They recorded only one full loss the entire tournament. The revamped team performed well in every category.
Zack Barry, also from XP LaserSport (shown in last year's photograph), was the big individual winner. Zack, who plays under the code name "CyberWolf", competed with four other players in the new Top Player contest, winning $1000. The contest between four of the best players from the tournament (a maximum of one player per team) occured immediately following the main tournament. The four players competed in a variety or styles and formats to determine the best player. Zack won all of the heats, except for one, making him likely the best individual LASERTRON player to date. Other players in the Top Player award included: Kyle Kimmerly (Jim Bates) representing Top Gun, Matt Mueller (Ironman) representing OverPower, and Rob Barry (Dolphin) representing The Professionals. Zack Barry represented his team, Fortitude. View all Best Player Points Results
In the picture above, Randy Meding (Bhodi Li from Fortitude), models some ancient Photon gear in the LASERTRON parking lot. Several of the players in the LASERTRON World Championships have been playing laser tag since the mid 1980's when Photon was the major brnad. All of the oldtimers enjoy the reliability of the LASERTRON LT-11 laser tag gear. In addition to the Top Player contest, all tournament players were eligible for the Solo Elimination tournament. In the Solo Elimination finals, sixteen players competed in against each other. Each player could be tagged up to seven times before being eliminated. The winner was determined by score. Once again, Zack Barry (CyberWolf) won the event. The results were as follows: Solo Elimination Results

Top Gun from Laser Flash Laser Tag in Carmel, Indiana (near Indianapolis) was a surprise powerhouse for their first tournament. They were competitive in every event and beat OverPower in the Team Sport event, OverPower's first second place finish in two years.
Team Fortitude, composed of experienced players from both Maryland and New York, was another contender at the tournament. The team placed 4th or better in every team event and, with Zack Barry, took both individual honors.
The Professionals, another team from XP LaserSport, placed third in three team events. The Professionals also won the award for the oldest players in the tournament, many still playing laser tag after 20 years. They're modeling above in front of the two "XP-Mobiles", custom decorated PT Cruisers for XP LaserSport.
Team Nortresal from New York (with a player from Pennsylvania), took a 3rd and 4th place in two events. All told, players and teams split over $3000 in prize money.
All the players enjoyed Saturday at Circle C Ranch. In addition to playing on a new field, players got to enjoy all the other activities of the Ranch, including swimming, horseback riding and a rock climbing wall. The players were all treated to lunch and dinner, Circle C style, and enjoyed frequent trips to Miss Kates for milshakes and other treats. Dave Merriott (DrkNemesis from Fortitude) is pictured above preparing for a ride around the ranch. |
